Our first ambulance jet took off from Innsbruck in 1976. Yet in fact, rescue services have already started four decades ago in 1963, when the Aircraft Innsbruck company, the predecessor of Tyrol Air Ambulance, was granted the operating license. The first patients were rescued from mountains with single engined aircraft, equipped with skids. Today, measured by the number of patients flown, Tyrol Air Ambulance is Europe's number one in this field. A fleet of five ambulance jets and ambulance airliners is permanently on alert.

Tyrol Air Ambulance and its top medical quality, developed in the company's medical research department, is highly recognized all over the world. The medical equipment for the ambulance aircraft as well as for all Austrian rescue helicopters is provided by another company of the Tyrol Air Ambulance group, the Air Ambulance Technology. This company is exporting aeromedical equipment worldwide.

In 1990 Tyrol Air Ambulance offered the world's first scheduled air ambulance service. Since then we have been operating our "plaster shuttles" several times a week every winter. These planes, flying between Innsbruck, the French Alps, The Netherlands, Belgium and England, are reserved for victims of ski accidents. The company has already transported a total of 30,000 injured or ill travellers from the most obscure spots on the planet to their home country.
